Lively Medellin

Our time in Medellin was slightly unplanned as we originally thought we would be going straight into its surrounding coffee region. However due to our delayed bus and kind of not being in the mood to jump back into another one, we decided that we would keep the coffee region for our next time in Colombia (yes we will be back) and just stay put in Medellin instead. I was kind of exited about this as having watched and loved the series narcos (cliche I know) based in Medellin, I wanted to see what it looked like!
Our first day started with a bang watching the France- Argentina match…in a bar filled with Argentinians! We then went into Medellin’s center which was incredibly lively! The streets were filled with stalls and people selling mostly Colombian jerseys but many other knick-knacks too. I really enjoyed it, although somewhat overwhelming to the senses because there is just so much going on, there was something very lively about it! That evening we decided to go to a salsa class that was recommended to us. I thought this might be a good idea to improve our dancing, and having someone tell you the steps would make it easier…however it was both our impression that we came out more lost than before…having every step broken down actually makes it harder and kind awkward to be honest…but don’t worry we havent given up on you yet salsa!
The next day we went into cerro 13, a popular neighbourhood for its violent past, but now very touristy and covered with graffiti! This neighbourhood was really impressive to see when you think that only fifteen years ago it was a neighbourhood mainly run by drugs and violence and today it is a very pleasant neighbourhood with many small shops and restaurants!
