The first thing that hit us in Cartagena was the heat ! The second was the diversity. In every countries that we’ve seen so far, there was a trend, in every region, in the colour of skin of people, in their facial traits, but in Cartagena not at all. They were people with really black skin, others with white skin, they all had really different eyes, mouth ... Later we were explained a bit more about the history of The region. Cartagena was founded in 1533 and became one of the most important port of the Spanish colonial empire, port which became active in the slave trade. It’s thus the mix between indigenous people, Spanish and Africans whom originated this diversity. Plus because of its big colonial past, the center of Cartagena is filled with colorful colonial house making this center a very nice place to walk in. And indeed our 3 days in Cartagena were spent walking around in the center.
