If I needed a good example for a city that showed me first impressions can be so wrong - Potosi would be it.

We firstly arrived at nightfall which in Bolivia is around 6ish and our first job when we arrived was to find a place to sleep. This involved us crossing town via an incredibly busy road, going uphill huffing and puffing with our big bags, slaloming between cars, people and chip carts. When we finally made it to a hostel I turned around to Agathe and said I wouldn’t mind not spending too much time in Potosi as the city didn’t seem too pleasant. However, as we went for a walk around the city, I realised I was completely wrong! On the contrary, Potosi is an incredibly nice city to walk around in. Because of its very rich history due to its silver mines, the city has beautiful architecture, with many colonial, colourful buildings. On our walk around town we got to assist the coming out of schools where all the streets are overflowed with screaming kids eating lots of snacks and hanging out with their friends. We also played a good game of Fussball as many tables are lined on plazas and can be played for less then 10 cents!

We also were very exited about our find of a local restaurant for lunch where you just sit down at a table with locals and for 1,50€ you get brought a 3 course meal - kind of like a local cantine!

After 2 days in Potosi, as we were walking around to find something to eat before we went to Sucre (capital of Bolivia), we met 3 people who did the Salar tour at the same time as us although not in the same car! Thank goodness we ran into them as they informed us that because of all the protests going on in Sucre, if we managed to go, there was a high risk of us being blocked in the city! So instead of hoping on a bus to Sucre we went out for drinks with them and headed together the next day to La Paz.
