Our first impression of la Paz was, I have to admit, rather negative. We arrived early after a night in the bus and all the hostels were expensive, ugly, and with crappy receptionists... Anyway after we chose an hostel, rather by boredom (lassitude) more than by likes, we finally started to explore the city accompanied by 2 French’s, Élodie and Anthony, that we had remet in Potosi. We first went to one of the biggest craft market of La Paz, the whitch market, which wasn’t the smartest idea... After 5 months without buying anything, we went a little crazy. Safe to say, we bought slightly more souvenirs than we had first anticipated (loads of gifts for everybody !!!!!!!). We then decided to do the «free » walking tour of the city which was, from everything we’ve heard, really great (even for people, like us, who don’t really like tours). After only a few minutes zebras started to dance in front of us, helping us cross the zebra crossing, hugging children of the group (no they didn’t take us for children !). It’s only after this first encounter, that the guide explained that these zebras (remplacing the police) were part of a new project aiming for people to respect more road safety - and it seemed to work pretty well ! Our second stop was in front of a prison rather odd... There are no guards in the prison, and so the inmates self-manage themselves ! We couldn’t go in but our guide did a few years ago and told us that everything was working like a small town inside the town with its restaurants, its shops, hierarchi, neighborhood and cells more or less expensives... For those interested there’s a lot more of small anecdotes on the prison that you can ask us for when we come back :) Our guide then told us a little bit about politics and told us about her own opinions, which really happily surprised us ! The tour being over, we still kept on wondering in the street, and it's a good thing that we did ! Our eyes drawn by some paintings, we enter in an art galery where was exposing one of the most famous bolivian artist still alive. You can imagine our surprise when we realised that the artist was present that day. Not only did he sign our replica (original too expensive) but he also draw our faces on the back.

So La Paz wasn't so bad in the end ! ;)
