After as always a good train delay here we are in the city of Joy: Calcutta! This is our last stop in India, but also a very much anticipated stop on my part as we will be visiting my great aunt who as been living in India for nearly the past 60 years. My great aunt came at the age of 20 to India, by taking a 3 weeks boat from Ireland to come and work as a sister in the loretto convent in Calcutta. Over those 60 years she has done tremendous work, educating and housing orphans in order for them to get a better futur. As we arrive in the convent, where we will be staying for the next 3 days, we get welcomed by my great aunt and all her fellow sisters! It is so nice we are made very quickly to feel at home and get spoiled the whole time by all the sisters. During our time in Calcutta we don’t really go around the city, but rather enjoy the peaceful setting of the convent and enjoy taking part in the sisters routine. One of the evenings we also get invited to go visit the orphanage where nearly two hundred girls from the age of 3 to 20 live and learn. We get to meet the youngest girls so as not to disturb the older ones during their study time. They are so cute and so smiley! We have a great evening in the school toped with a delicious meal! After being overfed and spoiled for three days, it is hard to pack up our bags again, knowing that this time we have over two days of sitting in buses ahead of us as we cross the border to reach Nepal.
