One doesn’t come to visit Changsha but rather comes to enjoy its food! The food here is incredible but sadly for Agathe’s palate, really spicy! That didn’t stop us though from trying out a lot of the street food Changsha has to offer. For breakfast we started out with really good meat filled steamed buns, moved on for some dumplings and spinach filled fried pancakes and to finish a Changsha breakfast classic of noodle soups. The different women holding the stalls seemed amused by us pointing and tastings their food, it seems like not many foreigners make a point of stopping here. As there isn’t much to do in Changsha, we used our day to try and figure out next steps of our journeys and recover from breakfast to be hungry for dinner! Changsha has a really good atmosphere at night with crowded streets bustling with different food stalls. For two foodies, this felt like heaven. We started by tasting for the first time ‘stinky toffu’ which smells incredibly bad but tastes delicious (!), we then had spicy barbecued oysters, shellfish served with noodles on top, octopus on sticks and finished with tiny langoustines cooked in a spicy sauce! We then went back to our hostel, where the really kind owners made us some traditional Chinese tea.
